Can implant exchange increase capsular contracture risk?

1 Citation
Can implant exchange increase capsular contracture risk? I have had implants for 7.5 years with no problems that I am aware of! However, they are def larger than is proportional with my frame as my rib cage is very small and they make me a 32DD when I was a small B before. I would ideally like them to be a C- cup and to maybe sit a tiny bit lower and am therefore considering having smaller implants put in. Would you advise keeping the implants in the same position or moving placement? They are, technorati.com

Tips to Prevent Breast Augmentation Reoperation...

Breast augmentation reoperation rates were calculated between 18% and 22%, according to data accumulated by the FDA in 2003 and 2005. Other reasons for breast augmentation reoperation included complications such as capsular contracture and breast implant deflation. A patient asks, ?I understand that placing an implant in the submuscular position reduces the risk of capsular contracture. I?m wondering if there is an incision that is associated with less risk for this problem??

1 Citation
A patient in my clinic today asked an insightful question that I would like to share with you.  She noted that she understood that there is evidence supporting that there is a decreased risk of capsular contracture after breast augmentation if the implant is positioned behind the muscle.  She wondered, ?Is there  an incision that is associated with less risk for capsular contracture ?? A prospective study by Henriksen et al.  answered this very question.  The authors looked at the causative fa, technorati.com

?Do you use drains during breast augmentation?? a woman writes.

1 Citation
I received an email the other day from a woman who had visited another surgeon regarding breast augmentation.  During her consultation he told her that he routinely uses drains during the procedure.  She wanted to know if I also use drains during breast augmentation.  For those of you who may not understand what a drain is,  let me get this out of the way first.  A drain is a small tube that is placed into a space within your body that is designed to pull fluid away from this space and usually, technorati.com

What is capsular contracture?

1 Citation
Capsular Contracture is something that you should be aware of when you decide to have breast implants put in... When something foreign is placed into your body, your immune system automatically wants to fight it. Scar tissue is developed around the implant forming a capsule of thick tissue. This capsule can contract causing the implant to tighten; therefore causing pain and deformity of the breast to happen. Many techniques have been developed to help eliminate the capsule contracture, technorati.com

How do I know if I have capsular contracture?

1 Citation
There are different levels of capsular contraction and it doesn?t always occur to both breasts. Essentially what is occurring is the normal scar tissue that surrounds the breast implant is contracting tighter and tighter around the implant. As this occurs, typically, people first notice the implant seems a little firmer. As the contraction progresses, the implant seems to distort its shape and appear higher on their chest and even look a little smaller. Further contraction of scar tissue can, technorati.com
