We have 7 results for GBrowse.

Pointing us out at Genome.gov :)

1 Citation
NHGRI recently pointed out our new set of tutorials on model organism databases (funded mainly by NHGRI on their home page, genome.gov . Always nice to be recognized :D. And it gives me the opportunity to again point out that we do indeed have seven publicly available tutorials and training materials (slides, exercises, etc) on model organism databases including SGD , RGD , MGI , WormBase , FlyBase and ZFIN ? and a seventh on GBrowse , a generic genome browser used by some of the, technorati.com

Genetic testing for Annie? Nah.

1 Citation
Well, finally, on Sunday, I broke down. I?ve been wanting another cat for some time. My last 19-year-old passed about a year ago now. But for several external reasons the timing wasn?t right and I wasn?t ready. But one more story about the shelters getting filled up with pets as a result of the economic crisis just pushed me over the edge. Economic crisis has animal shelters crammed with dogs and cats ?.When the economy tanks and expenses rise, people take a hard look at what they can live w, technorati.com

How do you represent genomes?

1 Citation
Not just the genome, but genomeS. As Jan at Saaien Tist has mentioned , human (and other species) genomes are quiet variable. Though the linear representation of genome browsers makes perfect sense (like the UCSC Genome Browser , Ensembl , GBrowse and MapViewer among others) for much annotated data of the genome, structural variations are not so well visualized in a linear representation. And, as we are find the human and other specie genomes are quite variable, we might need to come up w, technorati.com

GBrowse announces Summer School

1 Citation
The GMOD team is running another set of workshops for learning how to use and administer a number of tools associated with this project.  This would be a great opportunity to beef up your skill set at a time of increasing need for these tools.  As more and more genomes and data sets are sequenced, managing, annotating, and visualizing all this data will only become more important.  Of course, if you don?t need to administer the tools and a tutorial for end users is what you need, you can see o, technorati.com

Tip of the Week: DNAPlotter

1 Citation
We spend  most of our time talking about long linear genomic sequences, organized over multiple chromosomes, which are traditionally well handled by genome browsers like Ensembl, UCSC Genome Browser, GBrowse, etc.  But if you want to represent a circular genome you may prefer other graphics and views.  DNAPlotter is a tool that will enable a circular graphical representation of the data, with annotation tracks that you can customize and manage.  It can also do linear views, but for this exam, technorati.com

Tip of the Week: Rice Kinase Database

1 Citation
Recently I came across a lab doing some valuable work on plant genomics, and I began to look around their site and found some interesting tools.  In this Tip of the Week I?m going to show you the Rice Kinase Database ( http://rkd.ucdavis.edu/index.shtml ) and some of the features it offers.  If you are interested in kinases you might discover some valuable relationships in the database, or you might follow the interaction maps for interesting connections, and examine the locations of kinases in, technorati.com

Ok, say you get a genome. What next?

1 Citation
There may be a lot of opportunity to get one?s genome of interest sequenced in the near future.  And I don?t only mean your own personal genome?I mean your species of interest.  There should be academic centers and service providers who offer genome sequencing at increasingly reasonable pricing soon. So let?s say you get your favorite sample done: what next?  We have talked about how cool it is to be able to use the GBrowse or WebGBrowse tools to display your data.  But that is missing a step,, technorati.com
