1 Citation
In the latest twist in the long-running options backdating saga, and in what appears to be a significant milestone in the options backdating-related gatekeeper claims, on June 15, 2009, Vitesse Semiconductor announced ( here ) that it had reached a settlement with its former auditor, KPMG LLP, in connection with the option backdating related allegations. In the settlement KPMG agreed to pay $22.5 million and to forgive past indebtedness.   As discussed at greater length here , in June 2007,, technorati.com

Iran: Election Fraud, 'Death to America' and the Information Age

1 Citation
Looks like the fuss over the Iranian election is over. Or should be, according to the country's Supreme Leader. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told Iran that those who don't like the way the election turned out should stop protesting, go home, and accept the fact that the Supreme Leader is the supreme leader. And, that the right candidate won. Not in so many words, of course: but that seems to be the gist of it. One more thing: some people were chanting "death to America!" Just the, technorati.com

Iran, YouTube, Twitter, Technology and the Human Spirit

1 Citation
An 'Atlantic' blog described what's going on in Iran as a "revolution." I'm not entirely sure that the label is entirely accurate. On the other hand, I think that may very well be what's happening. The recent presidential election was, to be polite about it, odd. Moussavi, a popular candidate, got only a third of the vote: and didn't even win in his own home town. Although some people in Iran were chanting "death to America," an Iranian tradition since the 1979 revolution, many more were out, technorati.com

Great travel companion? But how can I get the maximum out of it?

1 Citation
I recently received an IdeaPad S10 ? An outstanding netbook from Lenovo . It is relatively small, has great connectivity, and everything I need to take with me on flights and trips. It smoothly switches from hibernation to power on and vise versa, ready to serve me when I am looking for a nearby Japanese restaurant, business address, or my Gmail account. I also installed a copy of MobileMe client (by Apple) on it, keeping my business folders in sync on my S10, 3 Windows PCs  and my MacBo, technorati.com

1980s Video Game as a Metaphor for Avoiding Lifestyle Inflation

1 Citation
photo figure credit: AdamL212 When I was a kid my family had a Commodore 128 computer.  The vast majority of the time spent on this computer was in playing video games.  We had a game called Ghostbusters which, of course, was modeled after the hit movie of the same name. The object of the game was to respond to calls of high paranormal activity in buildings all around New York City.  At the start of the game you are given an allowance of funds with which you can buy gear for catch, technorati.com

Torvalds: Happiness is a warm SCM

1 Citation
Linus Torvalds is happy about the 2.6.31 merge window , mostly because people have figured out how to use git most effectively. He also provides a bit more detail on the tradeoffs involved in using git (or any distributed SCM really) in a comment response. " Part of the problem is that 'git' is such a flexible tool that you can use it in various modes, and mix things up freely. The whole distributed nature means that there's no gatekeeper, you can do whatever you want. read more, technorati.com
