Lifting the first turves at the Sweet Track Excavation Hello Internets, I didn?t blog in May, at all, so that is one of my resolutions I?m not doing so well on, In fact, compared to last year they are not going so well in general, which might explain why I?ve not been blogging- it gets a little depressing contemplating telling you all the things I haven?t managed to do quite yet? ? but that doesn?t mean I?ve been silent- I think in part the reason I?ve not been posting at length is also, technorati.com

The Earth's medieval magnetic field

1 Citation
Science News : A report given at the American Geophysical Union meeting in Toronto, Canada last week suggests that scientists have discovered a way to measure the Earth's magnetic field from 1000 years ago. Geophysicist Annick Chauvin from the University of Rennes, France, and her colleagues have analyzed samples of bricks and mortar from 9th and 10th century French buildings. They suggest that the Earth's magnetic field at the buildings locations peaked in 840 A.D. and measured about 70 m, technorati.com

Noble gases that rise from the depths

1 Citation
Nature : The noble gases emitted from deep inside the Earth have been sending mixed messages to those intent on deciphering them. A model that promises to help clear up the confusion is now on offer. Related Link Preserving noble gases in a convecting mantle, technorati.com

11.000 metros de viaje submarino

1 Citation

Mass extinction may have been caused by volcano

Associated Press : A mass extinction some 260 million years ago may have been caused by volcanic eruptions in what is now China, new research suggests . The so-called Guadalupian Mass Extinction , devastating marine life around the world, was preceded by massive eruptions in the Emeishan geological province of Southwest China, says Paul Wignall of the University of Lee, technorati.com

Climate model raises global temperature predictions

1 Citation
Washington Post : If an unusually detailed computer simulation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has it right, global warming in this century is on track to be about twice as bad as predicted six years ago. The MIT model is said to be the only one that incorporates among its variables possible changes in economic growth and other human activities and draws on peer-reviewed science on the climatic effects of atmospheric, oceanic and biological systems. After running the model 400, technorati.com

Kentucky environmental and energy lawyer Sanders says USGS finds large gas hydrate reserves in Gulf of Mexico.

1 Citation
According to an investigation headed by the U.S. Geological Survey (?USGS?), the U.S. Gulf of Mexico contains very thick and concentrated gas-hydrate-bearing reservoir rocks which have the potential to produce gas using current technology. Gas hydrate, a substance comprised of natural gas and water, may be a significant new energy source to meet future energy needs. The investigation team consisted of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), USGS, U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) and a group, technorati.com
