Chatterbots, Tinymuds, and the Turing Test 1 Citation The Turing Test was proposed by Alan Turing in 1950; he called it the Imitation Game. In 1991 Hugh Loebner started the Loebner Prize competition, offering a $100,000 prize to the author of the first computer program to pass an unrestricted Turing test. Annual competitions are held each year with smaller prizes for the best program on a restricted Turing test.
This paper describes the development of one such Turing System, including the technical design of the program and its performance on the first three Loebner Prize competitions. We also discuss the program's four year development effort, which has depended heavily on constant interaction with people on the Internet via Tinymuds (multiuser network communication servers that are a cross between role-playing games and computer forums like CompuServe).

1 Citation 1.4.11 got a new module for streaming Flash movie files called mod_flv_streaming. This module allows you to seek in FLV files using the high performance infrastructure of lighttpd.
The idea is simple and explained and implemented on ?Streaming? flv video via PHP, take two at http://www.flashcomguru.com/
But instead of streaming the file through PHP we do it in the webserver. The module expects a request for the URL which matches flv-streaming.extensions and can handle a ??start=? as part of the request.
The information to pass into the ?start? parameter is extractly by the flash-player from the meta-data of the flv-files. The meta-data can be setup with flvtool2
Now I leave it to you to combine this with mod_secdownload to create a flv-streaming server for free with deep/hot linking protected movies.

Using a complex array of perforations, the pavilion?s surface allows light to pass through creating shifting patterns, which?during specific times of the year?transform into the legible text of a poem. The specific arrangements of the perforations reveal different shadow-poems according to the solar calendar: a theme of new-life during the summer solstice, a reflection on the passing of time at the period of the winter solstice. The time-based nature of the poem?and the visitor?s time-based encounters with it?allow viewers to have different experiences either seeing a stanza of the poem or getting the whole poem. All of these possible experiences are equally valuable and have meanings unique to the individual.
