Habit Training Cards

1 Citation
I think I disliked sticker charts before my kids were even old enough to use them. How long have these inconveniences been used in teaching kids good habits? I know my Mom told me about using them to potty train kids when I was a girl and had begun babysitting for the neighbours. I suppose that means she used one when she taught us to use the potty, and I vaguely remember another occasion when check marks on a wall chart were supposed to motivate me to do some thing of importance. From email discussion with friend: I can give you my random thoughts of things we?re trying. Our current struggle is how easily distracted Christopher gets when he?s doing anything at all - lessons, washing hands, chores, whatever. SO distractible. Yoga. I?m looking for the Yoga Kid movies Becky brought over one day. Physically asking them to hold still and focus and practice breathing. Requires patience. Boring Tasks

1 Citation
Again, I?m just posting my random notes from my homeschool folder. I don?t know where this came from. Boring tasks: 1. Imagine it from your child?s point of view and acknowledge it?s not what they want. 2. Offer meaningful rationale for why this needs to be done. 3. Give as much autonomy as possible in doing the task., technorati.com

Summer 2009 Thaden-Pierce Plan

1 Citation
Kit printed off The List for me in a one page, three column format. (We did just preschool & primary levels.) Then I went through it and put the initial of each child that we want to focus on the item with for this summer. In the fall we?ll do this again, see how we?re doing. This, I hope, will hang on the fridge and be a visual reminder for me of which sorts of projects we need to incorporate into our day. Checking Lessons & Praise

1 Citation
Christopher & Moira are both working on their Saxon math. I go back and forth between them, having one start a review sheet while I cover the lesson with the other child and start them with their work for the day, then going back to the first child to do their lesson. Joseph?s on the floor playing with me and I try to have something for Bennett & Emy to do while I focus on math. The kids know once they complete their work they must bring it to me to be checked - return and report. I, technorati.com
