It is estimated that if we lost just one-tenth of the water within our body, we would not be able to stand, let alone walk. The body loses fluids in a variety of ways: when urinating; when you vomit or have diarrhea; when sweating; and from the lungs when you breathe. Normal, technorati.com

No sweat here ...

1 Citation
So I am pretty sure that Nika does not sweat. Now that the weather is getting really hot, I have noticed her turning really red. And this is not red as in sun burnt red, it is red as in overheating red. As soon as I bring her inside, she returns to her normal color. I have heard that some kids with Down syndrome do not sweat, or do not sweat as much as they should. I know Payton sweats, although I'm not sure she sweats as much as the typical kid does. Alas ... it hasn't been an issue with her., technorati.com

Did big-toenail hematoma kill Pheidippides?

1 Citation
Unfortunately, at least one of my big toenails is not likely to survive its run-in with last weekend?s San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon.   Among the known perils of long-distance running, after heat- exhaustion, heart-attack, and hyponatremia, this is the affliction I most hoped to never experience. It?s not an uncommon problem. At pre- race expos I?ve seen singlets on sale emblazoned with slogans along the lines of ?toenails are for sissies?.   I?m not clear on the exact cause of the problem,, technorati.com
