1Windows 7, Midnight Club Los Angeles 1 Citation I downloaded the beta version of Windows 7 yesterday and installed it onto a new VM under VMWare and it does look a bit like Vista, a sort of cut down simplified version. Just starting 7 is hardly a test of it though. What I need to do is use it in anger. Give it net access, set up email, newsgroups, install iTunes, rip and sync some music, download some iPhone apps and see if I can get 7 and iTunes to sync with the iPhone (Are you crazy? This is beta software. Ed). Good point. Not sure if I c, technorati.com

IBM To Lay Off Staff Despite Strong Quarterly Performance 1 Citation It seems that not even a strong financial performance in the last quarter will save IBM staff from layoffs.PC World reports that IBM intends to lay off around 1,419 people from its software group, with another 1,499 jobs going from sales and distribution. The job cuts were disclosed on the Alliance@IBM board, a website run by the Communications Workers of America union. A spokesman for IBM Canada, which will be making many of the cuts, has confirmed intentions to retrench staff.Source: Jeff Jedr, technorati.com

1 Citation I have the unfortunate tendency to get myself personally involved in debates that actually don?t concern me much. In this case I?m referring to the age old and oft-fought Mac vs. PC. For me personally it started two years ago when I was in the market for a new laptop; it was going to be the single most expensive item I?d bought myself outside of a car, so naturally I did some pretty extensive comparison shopping and researching of specs. Now, needless to say this was just after windows Vista ha, technorati.com

The diskette that blew Trixter?s mind 1 Citation This is pretty obscure, and super old sk00l, but I am completely fascinated. This guy found a disk that was readable by both C64 and IBM PC - quite a rare find indeed? This diskette has officially blown my mind. This is the very first time I have ever seen something like this. The data for the IBM program takes up more than 160KB as evidenced by a DIR. The C64 1541 drive is a single-sided drive; IBM?s is double-sided. Based on all this, we can deduce how this diskette is structured and w, technorati.com

1 Citation It was almost 26 years ago that I received my first personal computer: the Timex Sinclair 1000. This computer was my Christmas gift in December of 1982. Powered by a Zilog Z80A microprocessor running at a speedy 3.25MHz, the Timex Sinclair 1000 came with 2 whole kilobytes of RAM, a video display capable of rendering 22 by 32 text characters and offline storage on cassette. The price was about $100 which was actually quite cheap in those days. I purchased an IBM PC soon after that which cost m, technorati.com

Evolution of Computer Hardware 1 Citation We all use personal computers and we all take them for granted in our everyday lives. It?s easy to forget that PCs have only been around for a couple of decades, and initially were nowhere near the powerhouses we have on our desks today. For example, did you know that the first ?portable? computer weighed 25 kg (55 lb) and cost close to $20,000, that the first laser printer was big enough to fill up most of a room, or that you basically had to build the first Apple computer yourself?
