Mute.com: Various (Mute) - Mute Audio Documents 1978-1984 1 Citation Mute emerged in the post-punk era. It was a new era of pop democracy, and anyone could make a record. You didn't even need to know three chords, according to Mute founder Daniel Miller. All you needed, he said, was an idea.
His 'idea' was to create a classic of DIY pop - a double A sided 7" single featuring the songs T.V.O.D. and Warm Leatherette. He called himself The Normal, designed a sleeve with Letraset, stuck the name Mute on it, and accidentally started a record label., blogmarks.net

Ubiquitous Angels; ambient sensor networks to crowd source crisis response and community awareness 1 Citation Criticism ? Side effects often dominate over intended consequences of any project or endeavor. ? Abstract views may make us callous or may badly re?ect ground truth. ? Ignorance is bliss. The world is ?lled with sob stories. Best to not dwell? ? Such services may be used solely for the most banal aspirations and goals. ? Struggle may be important - making things too easy may harm ?tness and lower diversity of skills and abilities over long term. ? What about poor people who are outside of any implied technological social network? ? Why not just help people around you? ? Any technology should go hand in hand with day to day personal practice that is unmediated? ? Feedback loops may be created that accelerate and disrupt society. ? Virtual and visual only for curators; not tactile; uses only one sense. A concern?, blogmarks.net

Michael(tm) Smith » On privacy protection in Web applications and browser APIs 1 Citation I feel a lot of anger and frustration in this list. Some of the items seem fine to me. I would not have written them like this ;). I disagree strongly with the last one, not because of the rationale but the form. It?s an unproven affirmation. There will be cases where it will be indeed the case and some not. :)About geolocation privacy, the issue has hit the fan already ;) Advertising the user?s location is one way to make aware the user (or users in developping countries) of a mobile device. Blocking access to the location is *not always* a solution either. Sometimes the solution will be in how long the data can be kept, sometimes the solution will be in how the data will be used.Repeat after me 1000 times: It is not a privacy issue, but a lack (or very thin) opacity issue. The network makes the access to information very quick and easy. There?s no need or no use to block it. There is need to be able to slow down the stream at will., blogmarks.net
