PassKool is a deterministic password generator. It tries to generate passwords that more or less sound like English. As PassKool generator is deterministic, identical inputs will give the same password. The security here relies on a secret passphrase used to generate the final password. A passphrase is usually easier to remember than a cryptic password. If you happen to forget the password, you can still retrieve it using PassKool. PassKool can also create deterministic password with random content. This may sound contradictory but the deterministic parameter is the seed used for the random generator. Here's a short example for a "root" account on some Unix/Linux box. By default, the password has a length of 12 characters. python passkool.py "root" "top secret phrase" ---> Generated password : quencatithro If you call this command again, you will find the same password., blogmarks.net

Wubi - Ubuntu Installer for Windows - ubuntu wiki

Troubleshooting Q. My download is very slow A. The torrent hasn't got very many peers at the moment, so download rates are limited. If you can download with a standalone torrent client with properly forwarded ports that would probably increase the download speed - if you do please seed for as long as possible. Q. I installed ubuntu, but how do I use it A. Reboot the computer, and as it's starting up you'll be presented with a menu - select Ubuntu from that menu and press enter. Q. The installer freezes at the splash screen. A. Try another option in the 2nd boot menu (GRUB menu). To see the menu you may have to keep tapping the escape key after selecting "Ubuntu" from the first menu. Q. When booting, I get this error: Error 17: File not found A. Try defragmenting your hard drive Q. The bootloader doesn't show up at all, and it boots straight into windows A. Make sure C:\boot.ini has a "timeout" value higher than 0, and that this is the last line: C:\grldr="Ubuntu" Q. I can't find the Boot.ini file A. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties, then go to the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery, then Under System Startup, click Edit. Q. I can't login to Ubuntu with the username I specified in the installer. A. At the moment, the username is "ubuntu", and the password is "ubuntu", regardless of what you selected during installation Q. I'm getting gdm and xserver errors A. Ctrl-Alt-F1, log in, and run: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, then reboot Q. My network doesn't work A. Open a terminal, and run: sudo dpkg-reconfigure dhcp3-client, then reboot Q. How can I remove ubuntu when I no longer want it A. Start the computer into Windows, and then go into "Add/Remove Programs" in "Control Panel". Select "Ubuntu Linux" and press remove. REMEMBER that this removes Ubuntu and any programs or documents you installed inside Ubuntu. Q. Can I install if my computer is running Windows Vista? A. Only if you're dual-booting with Windows XP; boot XP, install in XP, then select Windows XP in the Vista bootloader, then select Ubuntu. Users running just Vista, and not dual-booting with Windows XP will have to wait until GRLDR supports the Vista bootloader. Q. My Windows partition is not the first partition on my first hard drive. Will this work? A. Not for now. Support will hopefully soon be available., blogmarks.net

Password Strength Indicator and Generator | The Book and the Cover

Sometimes you want to show your user the strength of their password and although there a quite a few jQuery ?plugins? that do this there are none - that I?ve found - that let you set the class of an element so that you can do a graphical representation of the strength. What I have put together is some code that I have been using on a few projects and turned it into a rough plugin. I say a rough plugin because it is very basic and not entirely flexible; let?s just call it a proof-of-concept., blogmarks.net

Featured Download: FilePhile Transfers Any Size File Between Any Two Systems

1 Citation
After registering at FilePhile's site with an email address and password, you grab and install a copy of the Java-based app, launch it, and add email addresses to your buddy list. Sending a file is a simple right-click on someone's name, but you can limit the bandwidth eaten up by FilePhile in its preferences. The transfers themselves are encrypted, and, as the site boasts, can be any size. That's about it, but that's probably all you need., blogmarks.net

Midnight Research Labs - Depant your network

1 Citation
MRL has a new tool we?re releasing that will check your network for services with default passwords. The tool is called depant ((DE)fault (PA)ssword (N)etwork (T)ool). Depant works by downloading a default password list, and then mapping out the local network to see what open services are available. Once it has a list of services, it will test each service for default passwords. Once it?s gone through each of the services, depant will determine the fastest service (as recorded in phase one) and use it to perform an optional second phase of tests with a larger (user-supplied) set of default users/passwords., blogmarks.net

ShareTool

1 Citation
Access your Bonjour Services from anywhere, securely. Scenario: You've just purchased a brand new iMac and MacBook and are simply loving it. You've set up your home or office network exactly the way you want it. You have file sharing between the two machines and can transfer your documents easily between them; you can listen to your iMac's iTunes Library from the MacBook and view your MacBook's iPhoto Library from your iMac. Everything on your network works exactly as you want it to and life is beautiful. What happens when you have to leave (i.e. work or travel) the comfort of your new custom configured network? Wouldn't it be nice to know that with one mouse click you will be able to access almost everything you've just setup from anywhere in the world securely? Before ShareTool, this was simply not possible without an extremely (if at all possible) complicated setup even for those in the know. Not anymore! With ShareTool, that complex procedure is reduced to a simple mouse click and as a result, yes, you can be at two places at the same time! ShareTool lets you access all of the Bonjour services on your home network from anywhere in the world. This includes iTunes Music Sharing, Screen Sharing, File Sharing, printing, and more. With ShareTool, you can listen to your entire iTunes music library at work, control the screen of any of your home computers, or grab that important file you forgot to bring with you. And this is simply the tip of the iceberg. With ShareTool, it's as if you've never left your own network! Some of the new features of ShareTool include the following: Simple Setup: ShareTool automatically configures routers supporting NAT-PMP or UPnP. Easy Access: Remote services automatically appear in Finder, iTunes, and other applications. Compatibility: ShareTool enables remote access for any application or service that advertises itself using Bonjour and runs over TCP/IP. Security: All network traffic is strongly encrypted. Access to your services requires your Mac OS X username and password. Dynamic domain name support On the fly compression: Transfer large files quickly. Secure web browsing: surf the internet using your own browser securely. and much more!, blogmarks.net
