Diisobutyl phthalate impairs the androgen-dependent reproductive development of the male rat

1 Citation
This study was performed to determine whether in utero exposure to DIBP would induce permanent and dose-responsive alterations of male reproductive development. Our results show that DIBP can cause severe and specific adverse effects on the male rat reproductive development, with a pattern similar to that of DBP. However, DIBP appeared slightly less potent than DBP in inducing malformations., delicious.com

Occurrence of phthalate esters in the environment of the Netherlands

1 Citation
Overviews of levels of n-dibutylphthalate (DBP) and di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) found in freshwater, marine water, sediment, and fish in the Netherlands are given. DEHP emissions are directed to water, whereas the calculations reveal that sediments provide a sink for DEHP and there is net transport to air. Although it has been suggested that water is the primary compartment for DBP, fugacity plots suggest that air is the compartment to which emissions are directed dominantly. The data reported are in line with values found in Western Europe., delicious.com

What Are the Sources of Exposure to Eight Frequently Used Phthalic Acid Esters in Europeans?

1 Citation
phthalates are found in human residential and occupational environments in high concentrations, both in air and in dust. Phthalates are also ubiquitous food and environmental contaminants. An increasing number of studies sampling human urine reveal the ubiquitous phthalate exposure of consumers in industrialized countries. At the same time, recent toxicological studies have demonstrated the potential of the most important phthalates to disturb the human hormonal system and human sexual development and reproduction. , delicious.com

Environmental phthalate exposure in relation to reproductive outcomes and other health endpoints in humans

1 Citation
this article first presents recent findings from the Study for Future Families, a multi-center pregnancy study in which the human analogue of the phthalate syndrome was first identified. Many of the findings reported in humans?most of which have been in males?are consistent with the anti-androgenic action that has been demonstrated for several phthalates. , delicious.com

Microcosm investigations of phthalate behaviour in sewage treatment biofilms

1 Citation
Laboratory trickle filter microcosms (continuous and re-circulating flow) were constructed and operated to investigate the biodegradation and adsorption of phthalates and also to isolate phthalate degrading microorganisms., delicious.com

Correlation of phthalate exposures with semen quality

1 Citation
A negative correlation between semen phthalate level viz DEHP and sperm quality and positive association with depolarized mitochondria, elevation in ROS production and LPO, DNA fragmentation was established. The findings are suggestive that phthalates might be one among the contributing factors associated with the deterioration in semen quality and these adverse effects might be ROS, LPO and mitochondrial dysfunction mediated., delicious.com

Biodegradation of phthalate esters during the mesophilic anaerobic digestion of sludge

1 Citation
Anaerobic digestion followed by land application is a common treatment and disposal practice of sludge. To date, many studies exist on the anaerobic biodegradation rates of PAE, especially of the easily biodegradable ones, whereas the higher molecular weight PAE have reported to be non-biodegradable under methanogenic conditions. It is of high significance that experiments with anaerobic sludge of different origin (US and Europe) showed that degradation of DEHP occurs under methanogenic conditions. Accumulation of high levels of DEHP (more than 60 mg/l) in the anaerobic digester has a negative effect on DBP and DEHP removal rates as well as on the biogas production., delicious.com
