1 Citation The privatisation of water. Capitalising on global climate change? "The PLoS Medicine editors point out that recognizing water as a human right would at least provide a framework for dealing with water privatization. Over the last 20 years, with the help of the International Monetary Fund and World Trade Organization, water has become a $500 billion global industry dominated by just three companies. According to reports published by the nonprofit Food and Water Watch, it?s been a disaster in both the United States and the developing world. ?This model has proven to be a failure,? wrote Maude Barlow, senior advisor on water issues to the UN General Assembly?s president, in an essay published last year. ?High water rates, cut-offs to the poor, reduced services, broken promises and pollution have been the legacy of privatization.? According to the UN, 2.8 billion people won?t have enough water to meet their basic needs by 2025.", delicious.com

US climate change and WTO rules 1 Citation My core message to you today is this. First, WTO rules are flexible enough to
deal with both carbon and job leakage. People should stop using the WTO as an excuse
not to tackle climate change. Second, even though the WTO should not stand in the way,
fighting climate change will have costs, and addressing carbon and job leakage in a costeffective
and administratively feasible way will not be easy., delicious.com

Saudi rejects China methane dumping claims - The National Newspaper 1 Citation The Chinese government announced late last month that it would investigate allegations that firms in four countries, including Saudi Arabia, had unfairly sold methanol, a common chemical, on the Chinese market at prices so low that they lost money on the shipments. The practice, called ?dumping?, is not protected by free-trade agreements.
?It should be noted that no protective fees are imposed on Saudi methanol and consultations are under way to refute arguments of dumping,? SABIC said in a statement to the Saudi stock market., delicious.com
